Quantum Research is currently seeking a mid-level candidate to serve as a System Administrator II with a Secret Clearance to support the mission and objectives of Kessel Run (KR), a detachment of the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC). KR leverages industry best practices and products to rapidly deliver capabilities while posturing for future and potentially disruptive information technology (IT). Kessel Run revolutionizes the way that the Air Force builds and acquires software to meet the needs of Airmen across the globe. It embraces Agile principles, DevSecOps, and lean product management practices to continuously integrate and deliver software capabilities. KR also embraces a culture of rapid feedback loops (e.g. build, measure, learn) and user-centered design managed by Government-led teams to rapidly develop, produce, and deploy software across the Air Operations Centers and other Air Force programs, while continuously iterating and improving upon those software applications.



The ideal candidate will support on-premises and cloud infrastructures including installation and configuration of software, hardware and networks. They will monitor system performance and troubleshoot potential issues ensuring high level of reliability and availability. The system administrator ensures security and efficiency of the system to include installation of patches, system upgrades, analysis of logs, and provisioning of appropriate resources. Responsibilities may include installation, configuration, and advanced troubleshooting of Microsoft and Linux operating systems (Red Hat, CentOS). The candidate is required to engineer Enterprise Level End User Services that encompass the entire Service Delivery Cycle / Life Cycle of engineering the service (requirements documentation, process development, installation, customer acceptance, production service maintenance, ongoing technology refresh, and service termination). The candidate will perform IA and IT support to systems and subsystems as well as logistics support. The candidate will perform IA services, to include intrusion detection and protection systems, key management, vulnerability analysis and assessment, multi-level security solutions, accreditation and certification of classified networks, and cross-domain solutions. This effort will require the implementation of DISA STIGs on mission critical systems; to manage and operate an IT infrastructure to include Cloud based systems, Virtual Servers, Virtual Desktops (VDI), Physical Servers, SAN/NAS devices. The candidate must have experience with VMware vSphere Suite of products; must understand Networking concepts such as vLAN tagging, subnetting, routing, link aggregates, LACP, trunking, etc. While configuring network devices is not a primary responsibility, configuring virtual networks and devices that leverage specific network technologies is required. The virtual environments consist of different versions of VMware technologies. The ability to coordinate with outside vendors for needs outside the normal scope of work may be required on a limited basis.



  • Must have a Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience; OR Master's degree and 2 years of experience. A degree with emphasis on Cyber Security is a plus, as are computing environment certifications (VMware, Linux, Windows OS).
  • Experience with software architecture, design, and testing
  • Experience with release management tools and techniques
  • Comprehensive understanding of Server Management
  •  Basic understanding of networking, including subnets, routing, and VLANs
  • Windows domain architecture experience
  • Experience with VMware
  • Experience with RHEL
  • Experience with Cloud based systems (AWS, Azure, Google, etc.)
  • Knowledge of cyber defensive architecture and technologies to protect, detect and respond to cyber threats and attack
  • Technologies include SIEM, vulnerability assessment, discovery, infrastructure (firewall, IPS/IDS, proxy, network capture), host based security, penetration testing/external assessment tools, forensics, etc.


  • Understanding of Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, or other automated deployment, scaling, and management of containerized application principles
  • DoD cybersecurity experience is a plus
  • Currently valid Security+ CE, CASP, CISSP or similar security certification
  • Rudimentary Scripting
  • Creation and deployment of system images in an enterprise environment
  • Experience with Certification & Accreditation process
  • DoD 8570 Certification in a primary OS (Windows, Linux, Cisco)
